BridgeSync: automating SAP-AFAS integration for a national toll operator

The challenge

Satellic, Belgium's national toll operator, ran its financial department on two incompatible ERP systems — a legacy SAP instance and a modern AFAS environment. There was no native integration between them. Every morning, a dedicated staff member had to manually extract data from SAP, transform complex file structures, and load them into AFAS. This daily manual process was error-prone, created synchronization delays, and generated inconsistent financial data across departments — a growing compliance risk.

What we built

We developed BridgeSync, a custom Java-based middleware that fully automates bidirectional data flows between SAP and AFAS. The system runs a robust ETL pipeline every morning — extracting data from SAP, applying advanced transformation logic to align legacy formats with AFAS's modern structure, and loading validated datasets automatically.

BridgeSync includes built-in validation and logging at every step, ensuring full traceability and rollback capabilities. The modular architecture was designed to support future integrations with additional systems or APIs as Satellic's digital transformation progresses.

The results

BridgeSync eliminated all manual daily reconciliation work, drastically reducing data errors and synchronization delays. Financial reporting is now consistent across all departments. The staff member previously dedicated to manual file transformations was freed for higher-value work. Most importantly, the integration layer removed compliance risks through continuous, automated data integrity — giving Satellic a future-proof foundation for their ERP landscape.
